Hello all, I have a R5 1.4 engine in my R4GTL and it is fitted with a K&N air filter. Has anyone fitted something similar and did you have to rejet the carburettor, (mine has a weber32 DIR), if you did need to rejet was it only the main jet or were there other jets that needed replacing?

Thanks one and all, (apologies for the lack of nederlands), Rudi. :D [/img]

What type of engine is it?

I had fitted a K&N on a 1108 cc with the 28mm Zenith. I didn't need to rejet it.

I have a K&N as well on the 32DIR of a 1400 engine from the R5 automatic

I did nothing to the jets, just fiddle with the set scews on the mixture and idle jets. If you are going to rejet, let me know if you get good results.

Jan-San, my engine is exactly the same as Willems', an R5 auto with a 32DIR weber, the only difference is the K&N air filter which is the chrome 'pancake' version that sits directly on top of the carburettor.

you can try larger jets, for example 160/190. Just see if its better than. It's not necesssary.

Thanks one and all, i've thoroughly cleaned the carb and made sure there's no air leaks and she runs a lot better.
Willem what have you set the timing at? Mine (R5 1400 auto 1983 Type 847 R1229) is set at 9 degrees BTDC.
Once again dank u allemaal.

Rudi.

Mine is app 10 degrees which is the prescribed setting according to my manual.
By the way, where do you live ? Always nice to meet someone with exactly the same engine...

Thanks Willem, i'll reset mine to 10.
I live in England, Hambleton, North Yorkshire and go to visit my mother in France quite often.
The engine has only been in my viertje for two weeks as the 1100 died not long after coming back from France on our last visit.
Thank you all for your help.

Rudi. :D
